Hey Guys, just want some help distinguishing the differences between an abridged parody, a HyperAbridged and a MENT.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Difference between an abridged, Hyperabridged and a MENT
To be honest... There's no real difference TBH. Purps himself said he called his work MENT as a shortening of Abridgement in which to help his stand out. And I'm sure Eagle wanted DTBH to stand out for similar reasons. (Austen, please correct me if I'm wrong). And abridged / parody are all the same shiz. Basically, I mainly notice it's more a difference within comedic styles throughout most forms of parody. And usually, whatever moniker is chosen for the respective series creator is mainly a show of creativity of sorts.

They're just labels that creators put there to express their comedic styles. Overall, there's no real difference.

Except for Abridge. That's not a label. Never call it Abridge...

Abridge names can be whatever the creator wants. Some tend to see Ments as more random and frantically paced, simply because that's the style that the most popular user has. Having different names does help the later comers differentiate from someone else's series though!

Jesus christ just make some goddamn anime parodies

Chances are, if you're reading this, it's after reading a ridiculously long post by me, something harshly phrased or confrontational, and/or me being stupid. I want to apologize for my above post, and end this signature with a quote of wisdom to soothe your soul.

RE: Difference between an abridged, Hyperabridged and a MENT
I feel like the three formats have different meanings to different people. For me an abridge is closer to the original content of the source material. A MENT is a lot looser but might retain a few things from the source material. I haven't seen many Hyperabridges so I cant really define that. But what it really comes down to is they're all different names for the same thing.

Also I hate to be that guy but,

Truthordeal Wrote:5. Two topics are usually best left alone: the difference between a MENT and an abridged series, and references. The consensus is that there is no difference between the two, and that references are evil. Unless you can provide a unique and insightful new comment, just let them be.

Is that the consensus of the forum? Eh fuck it I'll be contrarian.

I see the MENT label as an indicator that this abridge is less about strict parody of the source material, and more about jokes. The anime is a platform for which you are using to tell your jokes.

Whereas more traditional abridges are parody first, keeping somewhat to the plot.

Though, this is just how I personally see it, y'know? No need to argue about it xP

WTF is a Hyperabridged? And why do I have the sinking feeling it's far less fantastical than my perpetually 12 year old imagination makes it out to be?

Okay, nobody seems to know what they're talking about here so I'll make everything crystal clear for ya.

Abridged: A term used to describe a regular Abridgement of an anime, involving shortening an episode down to less than 10 minutes and injecting more comedy into the series.

MENT: Like an Abridged, but the plot of the series is completely tossed aside to inject more randomness and more comedy.

Hyperabridged: Like an Abridged, but 3 minutes or less.

BA$ED: Like an Abridged in da hood.

Satire: Like an Abridged, but less comedy.

'Bridged: An Abridged.

Abridgital: Like an Abridged, but is limited to Digimon and has no comedy whatsoever in it.

Actually, this is the definition of "a Hyperabridged" @4:17.

Also, Hyperabridging is dead.
Not that it was never alive in the first place...
